More confusion over O2 iPhone 3G launch plans
It seems confusion continues to reign as the magic date of July 11th - iPhone 3G launch day, for those living under a rock or outside the woozy halo of Apple products - draws ever-nearer.
Picking up on a previous reference to our coverage of rumours suggesting O2 was going to allow in-store pre-registration in advance of the launch day, commenters on The Apple of My I’s article now give conflicting reports from their own experiences in O2’s stores. According to one visitor, O2 staff are now saying there is no way to get the iPhone pre-registered, as it would be deemed a ‘pre-order’ which Apple apparently won’t allow.
Hmm. Pre-registrations have been announced in other countries, so this may well be yet another case of the retail stores being last to know (I remember calling the Apple Store Bullring hours after the announcement of the MacBook to see when they would have it - they’d never heard of it).
Until O2 comes up with the goods - i.e. some decent detail on how exactly this whole buy/upgrade/whatever thing is going work with the iPhone - anxious customers continue to get frustrated and excited in equal measure.

It is indeed a right mess. Clear communciation and an easy FAQ would have avoided this!
All I want to do is get an iPhone 3G, for free, as I am entitled to do so, with the minimum of hassle, from an Apple store with activation at home!!!
Hi its not happening for sure a 15 min argument with the manager of the Stafford store didnt get me anywhere.
I have an unlocked phone (have for a long time) and have decided to go across with my contract up to 02, but this whole episode is making me think twice they seem as organized as a brewery with an comitee for a party.
02 is not a good partner for Apple I feel
